What are the technical requirements to use the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

You must have the following:
•Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 •Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
•.NET Framework 2.0 – this can be downloaded for free at Microsoft's website
 
You must launch the ProPay FLASH Card Reader application from your Internet Explorer browser. The first time you try to launch the card reader application, the ProPay website will detect if your computer meets the minimum requirements. If it doesn't meet the minimum requirements, instructions will be provided.
 

How many transactions can the ProPay FLASH Card Reader store?

The device can store up to 71 transactions. Once it is full, the device light will blink red when it is turned on.
 

Can I process transactions without being connected to the internet?

While the ProPay FLASH Card Reader can capture card data without being connected to a computer (such as when you are selling products at a party), you must connect the card reader to an internet-enabled computer to process your transactions on your ProPay account.
 

Will I see transactions processed through the ProPay FLASH Card Reader in my ProPay account?

Yes. Once transactions stored on the ProPay FLASH Card Reader are processed, they will show up in your online ProPay account reports.

 

What transaction information do I have to record when using the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

At a minimum you must record the name on the card, the last four digits of the card number, and the amount of the transaction. This will allow you to match up transactions on the ProPay FLASH Card Reader with your sales documents. If you use a duplicate receipt book, you can record the above information in it, or you can use the ProPay sales log.

 

Is this a skimming device?

No. Only an approved ProPay account holder may process transactions on a device that is registered to the account holder. A skimming device is one that captures unencrypted cardholder data that can be used for fraudulent purposes. The ProPay FLASH Card Reader encrypts cardholder data at the point of sale. Even if a dishonest person had a device with data on it, they wouldn't be able to decrypt it.

Can I use other devices similar to the ProPay FLASH Card Reader with my ProPay account?

No. ProPay currently only supports the ProPay FLASH Card Reader since it is one of the only secure "encrypt at sale" devices available. We may support additional secure devices in the future.

Can my device be used with someone else's ProPay account?

No. Each device can only be registered and used with one ProPay account. If you want to permanently use a device with another ProPay account, you can release the device and register it with another account.

What fees are involved to use the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

The ProPay FLASH Card Reader suggested retail price is $149.95. During our Special we are offering the card reader for $99.95.
You must have the ProPay ProtectPay service (this is included with most ProPay accounts).
Normal processing fees apply and are dependent on which account type you have.

Do I have to have a ProPay account to buy the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

Yes. This reader cannot be used with any other merchant account. Only validated ProPay account holders may purchase the ProPay FLASH Card Reader and service.

Can I cancel the ProPay FLASH Card Reader service at any time?

Yes.

Are there fees to cancel the ProPay FLASH Card Reader service?

No.

Is there a warranty on the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

The ProPay FLASH Card Reader has a one year warranty against defects. Click here to read the limited warranty.

Can I sell my device to someone else?

Yes. Before you sell your device to another person you must first ensure the device is empty. You may then release your device by visiting the Edit My Profile page or calling ProPay customer service. Keep in mind that the person you sell it to must have an active ProPay account to use the device. The purchaser also may be subject to a device registration fee to use the device.

If I purchase more than one device will I have to pay multiple service fees?

You may buy as many devices as you like, however you will never be charged more than one service fee. To purchase more than one device, log into your ProPay account and select the option to purchase on the left hand side of the page, or under the Edit My Profile which is under the "My Account" tab at the top.

How long does the battery last in the ProPay FLASH Card Reader?

The device contains an internal battery that lasts up to 10 hours when fully charged. The device is charged when plugged into a computer via the USB cord. If the device is accidentally turned on, it will turn itself off within 1 minute. The device also turns itself off after each successful card read.

Can I use the ProPay FLASH Card Reader with a Mac?

In order for the ProPay FLASH Card Reader to work properly with a Mac, the Mac needs to run a Windows terminal with Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, and XP.
